What is ProTxCol?
ProTxCol is Professional Treatment & Collaboration. ProTxCol is a collaborative web site which allows sex offender treatment providers, probation and parole officers, and justices in the court system to work together to minimize the risk of future sex offenses.
Community Safety
ProTxCol makes the community safer by empowering government officials to make more informed decisions. Judges, probation, and parole officers need as much information as they can get about defendants in their case loads so that they can make the decisions that are necessary to prevent defendants on probation or parole from reoffending or committing new crimes. ProTxCol allows these government officials to see up to the minute detail on how defendants on their case load are doing while they are enrolled in treatment. In treatment, defendants learn how to be a part of society without committing crimes. Each defendant needs treatment appropriate for his or her crime so that he or she can be a healthy, productive member of society who will not commit future crimes.
More Effective Treatment
ProTxCol also helps treatment programs for convicted criminals to be more effective in preventing recidivism. Research has shown that Judges, Probation or Parole officers, and treatment providers need to work together as a team in the containment-collaboration model to more effectively protect society from future crimes.
San Diego's Sex Offender Management Council (SOMC) has identified the kind of collaboration available in ProTxCol as the third phase in their master plan to minimize the threat of sex offences in San Diego County.
